Many of the existing Building Stars were used for, almost exclusively, a structural reason. These Stars have a tendency to fail after many years in place due to the embrittlement of low grade \/ no grade cast iron. Also, keep in mind, that some of the Stars being sold elsewhere today should actually be classified as “strictly decorative, not for structural use.”<\/p>\n

Our\u00a0Structural Star Building Retaining Washers (Structural Retaining Stars)\u00a0are\u00a0domestically manufactured\u00a0in the USA<\/strong>. Often referred to as\u00a0Seismic Earthquake Washers<\/strong>\u00a0or Century Star Washers, our washers have an architecturally accurate historic pattern, and are used as anchor plates or wall washers that are connected to a tie rod or bolt on exterior walls of masonry buildings for structural reinforcement, used to brace the masonry wall against lateral bowing. They are available with a five or six point star design in\u00a0hot galvanized cast ductile iron\u00a0or may be custom-ordered in aluminum or bronze.<\/p>\n

Our\u00a0Structural Stars<\/strong>\u00a0are exclusively manufactured from\u00a0Ductile Iron\u00a0to ASTM 65-45-12, which is virtually a ‘semi-steel’ and hot galvanized and are\u00a0weldable<\/strong>. In comparison to unrated Cast Iron products, there may be a risk when used inappropriately in structural applications.<\/p>\n

Our\u00a0Star Washers<\/strong>\u00a0are also specified in plans as Gib Plates, Hurricane Bolts, Pattress Plates, Masonry Restraints and Tie Backs.<\/p>\n

We can provide you with all of the accessories such as rods, nuts, washers, plates and turnbuckles which you may require to complete the project.<\/p>\n

Most Stars have a\u00a0flat back<\/strong>\u00a0and a 7\/8″ ID. The\u00a0Hot Galvanized<\/strong>\u00a0recommended accompaniments are : 3\/4\u00a0Ogee Washer<\/strong>, 3\/4\u00a0USS Flat Washer<\/strong>, 3\/4-10\u00a0Heavy Hex Nut<\/strong>\u00a0and 3\/4-10 x 6′\u00a0Threaded Rod<\/strong>. The 13″ Stars require 1″ hardware. All Stars have a thickness of 7\/8″, with the exception of the 13″ Stars, which have a thickness of 2-1\/2″.<\/p>\n

The most popular size is\u00a07-1\/2″ (5 Point)<\/strong>, although 5-1\/2″ (6 Point), 7″ (5 Point), 9″ (6 Point), 10-1\/2″ (5 Point), and 13″ (5 Point) are also readily available.<\/p>\n
